Tongren Mine, Tongren County, Guizhou Province, China
Several well terminated cinnabar crystals have a rich red color which is dramatic on top of an opaque white barite matrix. The crystals have been well preserved and show great crystal detail complete with striations. Despite its gemmy redness, this is actually a sulfide (in the metal family) and its color comes from incorporation of mercury.
