Axinite-Fe with Chamosite on Adularia
Puiva Mount (Pouyva), Saranpaul, Khanty-Mansi Okrug, Tyumenskaya Oblast', Western-Siberia Region, Russia
A great combination specimen from the famous Puiva Mount, Russia locality demonstrates hallmarks of the region. Especially famous for its wine to mauve colored axinites, Puiva Mount is an alpine cleft formation with unusual mineralization. This piece features prominent wine colored axinites at the top and sides of the piece which are partially covered with waxy crystals / micro-coating of chamosite, an oxide related to clinochlore. All of this sits on top of a large, well formed adularia crystal which is rounded and opaque (distinct for this region and different from other alpine cleft localities. I really like the balance of colors and smaller doubly terminated axinite crystals on the larger crystal blades and whose relief is accentuated by the chamosite.
